SPIKE IN REQUESTS FOR DONATED FUEL VOUCHERS AROUND AUSTRALIA

  • GIVIT has seen a 43% increase in requests for fuel voucher donations in the past six weeks
  • Rising fuel costs have pushed many people to breaking point
  • Go to GIVIT.org.au to find out what’s needed by people experiencing hardship

Data from not-for-profit charity GIVIT, indicates requests for fuel vouchers across the country have increased by almost 50% in the past six weeks. GIVIT works with more than 5,000 community partner organisations around Australia, including local councils, charities, schools and grassroots support organisations to ensure people experiencing hardship have access to goods and services they need.

GIVIT National Manager Christina Spehr said that rising fuel costs along with the increased cost of living have pushed many people to breaking point.

“For people that were already struggling to put food on the table, rising fuel costs have meant that many are now going without the basics they need to get by,” said Christina.

“We’ve seen a sharp rise in requests for fuel vouches in the past six weeks, this includes people who have escaped domestic and family violence, elderly people struggling to pay bills and families in unstable employment who can’t make ends meet.”

“Not having fuel can mean not getting the kids to school, missing important medical appointments or access to essential services. We’re calling on people who want to help to visit GIVIT.org.au and donate what they can.”

100% of donated funds for a request through GIVIT will be used to purchase exactly what’s needed. We support local businesses where possible.

Christina Spehr said donations of other essential goods through GIVIT can take the pressure off people struggling to make ends meet.

“Funding a grocery voucher or donating a microwave allows people to put that money towards something else,” said Christina. “Small donations can make a big difference to someone doing it tough.”

“GIVIT is an easy way to help someone in need during this challenging time.”
