Recipient story

Syrian refugee family faces second eviction in a year; cancer survivor parent, low income, urgently needs housing support.
GIVIT
Our tenancy program is supporting a Syrian family for the second time in 12-months after they are being evicted from a second property in ACT, through no fault of their own (owners have sold properties)

A refugee family who fled a war‑torn country is at serious risk of homelessness. They have been living in the ACT for just 18 months and are still building community connections and stability.

The father is a cancer survivor and continues to live with complex medical conditions and chronic pain following treatment. He requires high levels of daily medication, which impacts his capacity to work. The mother also experiences chronic pain and is awaiting surgery. The family’s only income is Centrelink support, and with moving and establishing new tenancy costs imminent they need financial aid to help them offset everyday living expenses.
