This single parent household was significantly impacted by the January 2026 bushfires, leaving their home uninhabitable and requiring them to relocate for extended cleaning and repairs. Since March, they have moved approximately twelve times, relying on short-term accommodation due to limited housing options in their community. This constant instability has been emotionally and physically exhausting.
The parent is managing ongoing relocations, insurance processes, and multiple service providers while supporting two adult dependents with disabilities. All members of the household are neurodiverse, making frequent changes in environment particularly distressing.
The ongoing displacement, combined with pre-existing health challenges and reduced access to consistent support, has led to a significant decline in the parent’s mental health and overall wellbeing, impacting the entire household.
