I am working with a beautiful couple who are long term General Foster carers. They have 6 foster children in their care (one has recently aged out as she turned 18 however will remain living at home for the foreseeable future as she will always be part of the family).
The children are between 9 and 18. All the children's backgrounds are different, but were brought into care due to neglect, sexual abuse, family & domestic violence. Some of the children have significant additional needs including intellectual disabilities, ADHD, scoliosis, physical supports, and child apraxia of speech.
The family dynamic is warm & nurturing and they are a respected, well-loved family. Foster dad has been undergoing Radiation treatment for cancer and they have also been supporting their elderly parents in Perth with health issues. Due to the large numbers of children, the kids are quite isolated and don’t get to experience a lot of activities, often spending their time playing together at home.
