Living on Streets as Temporary Accommodation No Longer Available

Our client, a 41-year-old woman, has found herself without shelter after the temporary accommodation she’d been staying in for the past 18 months became unavailable. Despite her best efforts, she has been unable to secure alternative housing. She has been on the Department of Housing waitlist since 2022.
She receives a disability pension as her sole income and is recovering from surgery to remove a brain tumour. Throughout our support work with her, she has always been a quiet, gentle presence. But the instability of life on the streets is taking a heavy toll on her mental health, causing severe anxiety and depression.
In her own words, “It would be nice to have a place to go where I can just relax.” But her most urgent needs are immediate and practical.
Following an unprovoked attack from another rough sleeper, she now urgently needs: A new tent, sleeping bag, blanket, tarp, warm clothing. All of her previous belongings were damaged or destroyed in the incident.
