A mother is seeking support for herself and her two young children, aged 8 years and 10 months, after being left without financial or practical assistance shortly after the birth of her youngest child.
Seven days after his birth, the baby was diagnosed with Down syndrome. He also has complex medical needs following an injury sustained in hospital, which has left him unable to swallow safely. He cannot be bottle-fed or eat by mouth and relies on a nasogastric tube for all nutrition. The tube is frequently pulled out and costs $56 each time it needs replacing. Current NDIS funding does not adequately cover this ongoing essential expense.
The children’s father has moved overseas and is not providing child support, leaving the mother to care for both children alone. The family is experiencing severe financial hardship. Support through GIVIT would help ease this pressure and ensure the children’s basic and medical needs are met.
