Financial stress due to premature birth with developmental delays

Baby was born prematurely at 33 weeks requiring a 28 day admission into King Edward Memorial Hospital prior to being discharged to a regional hospital for follow up care. Baby was born required critically needed care to stablise in hospital resulting in her mother leaving the rural community and children to care for Baby during the admission. Baby is now back home with the family in the small rural community, which is 300kms from the city where consistent follow up care is required. Baby has a diagnosis condition which impacts on feeding and developmental progress. The unexpected complications have placed the family in financial stress due to the additional costs of travel and care.
The family are coming to terms with having a child with ongoing additional needs, the financial impact is placing immense strain on the family's weekly budget. The family are now faced with funding a breast pump to assist with feeding, requiring reduced food spending.
