Toilet training 5 year old with ASD as a single parent on welfare
Client is navigating life as a newly separated, single mother of two boys. Her eldest son is diagnosed with ASD and non-verbal. Her ex-partner dealt with chronic mental health concerns that resulted in psychosis and eventual hospitalisation which left the mum shouldering all the family responsibilities. Despite this, she applies herself diligently as an arts student at Sydney University to explore her passions. Now relying on the parenting payment alone to cover the needs of herself and the boys she is embarking on the challenge of toilet training her oldest son who is 5. The issue arising is that soiled underwear keeps being thrown out, lost or misplaced between school and daycare which means she has been needing to replace them weekly and it is becoming a big ongoing expenditure that she can’t keep up with amongst other daily necessities and expenses. Any vouchers she can use towards this would be helpful.
