Recipient story

Minky Blankets for Indigenous Dialysis Patients
First Nations Support
Other hardship(s)
For many people undergoing dialysis, treatment is not only exhausting but physically uncomfortable. As blood is circulated through the machine, it cools before returning to the body, often leaving patients feeling chilled for hours afterward. This is made worse by anemia, a common condition that limits the body’s ability to stay warm. Even in extreme heat, patients can experience persistent cold, and during winter this discomfort becomes even more intense.

For those already facing financial hardship and unstable or unsafe housing, staying warm can be a daily struggle. Without reliable heating, appropriate bedding, or safe living conditions, the effects of treatment linger long after sessions end. This ongoing discomfort can impact rest, recovery, and overall wellbeing, adding another layer of challenge to lives already under strain.
