My client is experiencing significant financial hardship and housing instability. He had been residing in a boarding house in the Paddington area, paying $290 per week in rent while receiving $360 per fortnight through Newstart, including rental assistance. This income was insufficient to meet his basic living expenses, placing him at risk of debt. Fortunately, he has recently been offered public housing and is currently in the process of moving in.
My client also lives with anxiety and depression, which have been exacerbated by ongoing financial stress and previous housing conditions. Despite these challenges, he remains motivated to secure part-time or full-time employment and improve his overall circumstances.
