Recipient story

Indigenous man establishing his public housing after history of homelessness, mental illness, incarceration, and addiction.
GIVIT
First Nations Support
This is someone who has had the odds stacked against them for most of their life. As someone who is supporting this individual, I can see how hard he is working to improve his circumstances. After being released from incarceration, he took the necessary steps and gathered evidence to demonstrate his suitability and need for a public housing property. After moving in with nothing and surviving on the minimum benefits, he connected with as many services as possible to get the essential items for his new home. All the while, attending daily appointments needed to manage his mental health. It is clear he is ready for a fresh start, hoping to secure employment in the coming months.
It is early days, however, and certain items are not currently available through his support services. These items would help him to maintain his new home to the required standard to ensure his tenancy. They would also greatly improve his quality of life.
