The client is a male who has been accessing crisis accommodation and support services for the past three years, during which time he was predominantly sleeping rough. With the assistance of NDIS housing supports and social workers, he has secured stable accommodation in a single one-bedroom unit.
The client is currently experiencing significant financial hardship due to relying on the Disability Support Pension (DSP) as his sole source of income. His financial situation has been further impacted by several recent hospital admissions, which have affected his ability to manage daily living expenses and establish his new tenancy.
While the client was in hospital, local community members broke into his unit and were squatting. During this time, he had household items damaged or destroyed, including kitchen equipment, and several electrical appliances were stolen. As a result, the client has been left without basic household items.
