My client is a woman living on the Disability Support Pension who relies on her dog as a key source of emotional and practical support. He helps her manage anxiety, feel safe at home, and engage with the community.
Following a council decision, her dog has been classified as a “dangerous dog”, triggering strict and costly compliance requirements (including secure fencing/enclosure, signage and associated council fees). While she is committed to doing everything required to keep the community safe and keep her dog, the cost is far beyond what she can manage on a DSP.
