He is a middle‑aged man living in shared accommodation with us during a profoundly difficult period of his life, as he navigates a terminal cancer diagnosis. Having lost his family when he was forced to leave his country of origin, he has lived much of his life without the support networks many take for granted, and his journey has been further shaped by lived experience of alcohol and other drug use and periods of homelessness. These experiences have contributed to significant vulnerability, isolation, and trauma; however, they have also underscored the importance of stability, dignity, and safety at this stage of his life. He resides with in our housing complex so that he can be supported in a secure and consistent environment while undergoing his battle with cancer, with a focus on his wellbeing, comfort, and care. Our role is to provide a safe place where he can live with dignity, be supported without judgement, and know that he is not facing this chapter alone.
