Small family - mum unable to return to work as planned - money is tight

Mum is the breadwinner in the family and hasn't been able to return to work as their son (8mths) has been unwell. Dad is on disability and is only able to care for the baby for 3-4 hr stints when she returns to work. So for now Mum is needed at home as well. They have little family support and doing their best to make ends meet. They have also just been given a bill in excess of $2,000 for a water leak that was beyond their control and are liable to pay for the "water used". They are being supported by the water company to make slow repayments and have had the amount reduced by a small amount. Any assistance with groceries would be appreciated.
