These siblings ages 9 and 10 have experienced significant neglect. The children’s parents' illicit substance and alcohol abuse meant the children were extremely neglected, often hungry, very dirty/no clean clothes, weren’t attending school consistently and lived in squalor, there mother was often violent, erratic and prioritised her relationships with inappropriate men over the children, exposing them to FDV. The children came into care highly traumatised with and presenting with overwhelming feelings of sadness and suicidal ideation.

Since being in care with a general foster carer who treats them as her own, having all their needs met and accessing therapy, the children are thriving. They have made lots of new friends, attend school and are actively engaged in sports, they both play basketball in the summer and football and netball in the winter. The carer is retired and does her best to afford them the things they like however can struggle to afford the more expensive items.
