This Aboriginal Elder is living alone following the transition of his long-term partner into residential aged care. After many years together, the separation has had a significant impact on his wellbeing, and he continues to experience loneliness and grief while adjusting to life on his own.
He now manages a large public housing property independently with very limited support and faces increasing challenges associated with ageing, maintaining his home, attending appointments, and remaining connected with services and community. Despite these barriers, he remains determined to maintain his independence and continue living safely in his home.
Maintaining a connection with his partner is extremely important to him. He speaks often about missing her and would love for her to return home, although this is unlikely due to her care needs. Support would help reduce social isolation, improve wellbeing, and make it easier for him to visit and remain connected with his partner and community.
