A middle-aged couple fled the war in Syria and spent a long time struggling as refugees in Lebanon. Eventually they were accepted for migration to Australia. The husband is very unwell (kidney transplant recipient & heart condition) and they are both highly traumatised. The wife is her husband's full-time carer and they have no children or other family to rely on. Being illiterate has proven to be a huge barrier to starting a new life in Australia but they are grateful to be here and trying their best. They live simply to try to make ends meet but the high cost of living and not being able to work means they are only able to cover absolute basics and anything beyond that must be foregone.
