Students in a support unit often face additional barriers that can make participating in everyday school opportunities more difficult. Experiences such as water safety programs and community learning play a vital role in helping students build confidence, independence, social skills and essential life skills beyond the classroom.
Many families of students with additional needs already carry significant financial pressures due to therapies, medical appointments and specialised supports. At the same time, schools often have limited funding available to support these important learning experiences. As a result, schools work hard to create opportunities for students while trying to minimise the financial burden on families.
Support helps ensure these students are not excluded from valuable real-world learning experiences and can continue to build the confidence, independence and life skills they need to thrive.
