After evacuating bushfires and staying elsewhere until it was safe to return, additional costs were incurred.
2026 Victoria Bushfires
GIVIT
They needed to evacuate the January bushfires as directed by emergency services, describing the whole event as absolutely terrifying, and as they were attempting to flee, after collecting their pet cat, they could see the flames coming towards them.
They were required to move out of the area for a few days, until it was deemed safe to return.
They live with mental health and receive a Centrelink benefit, and the additional costs while staying away from home have caused significant trauma and distress.
