Our service is currently supporting a large Aboriginal family. The matriarch (mother and grandmother) of the family suddenly and unexpectedly passed away and she was the carer for several grandchildren. Her daughter has now assumed care of those children at short notice, but also a single mother of her own three young children. She has to move to another rental, to accommodate for more children. The costs associated are astronomical and she is experiencing significant financial hardship and stress.
The family has experienced such profound loss and wanting to ensure impact on the children is minimised as much as possible. The young mum requires urgent assistance to set up the new home with essentials to be able to care for her children, nephew and nieces. This would allow the family space to grieve and heal together without additional stressors.
She is a survivor of trauma - including family and domestic violence during childhood and in adulthood.
