The mother relies on welfare support due to caring responsibilities and mental health impacts from trauma. Despite limited income, she prioritised her children’s wellbeing and saved to purchase a mountain bike for her eldest child. The bike allowed him to travel independently to a local youth program, supporting positive social connection, structure, and confidence. Just one month after purchase, the bike was stolen. The family cannot afford a replacement, as funds are directed to rent, food, and essentials. Without the bike, the child’s access to the program is significantly reduced.
