GIVIT Request: Urgent Material Aid Support for Older Asylum Seeker
He is a 71‑year‑old asylum seeker living in Canberra who recently lost his job and is experiencing severe financial hardship, including rent arrears. Arrived in Australian in 2025. As he does not hold a permanent visa, he is ineligible for DSP or NDIS support. He has limited understanding of tenancy rights and is not currently supported by any settlement or disability services. He has no family or community support and faces significant language barriers, making it extremely difficult to navigate essential services. He relies on a hearing aid for daily communication, attending appointments, and seeking employment, but he cannot afford to repair or replace it if it is lost or damaged. Our team is assisting him to connect with refugee and employment support providers. Immediate assistance with grocery vouchers would help address food insecurity, and material aid—particularly support toward a hearing aid—would greatly improve his wellbeing while longer‑term supports are being established.
