Families being supported are experiencing multiple, complex challenges that place children at risk of entering out-of-home care. Many parents are living with the impacts of domestic and sexual violence, intergenerational trauma, substance use, and mental health concerns, including anxiety and depression. Rising living costs have increased financial stress, with families often prioritising basic needs for their children over their own wellbeing. Parents are participating in a culturally safe, non-formal group where art and creative activities are used as a therapeutic way to reduce stress, build emotional regulation, and strengthen confidence. Access to appropriate creative materials is essential for the group to run effectively and provide a calm, supportive environment where parents feel safe to engage. These activities help parents build coping skills and confidence, strengthening family stability over time.
