Port Stephens first ever refuge for women and children opening soon. We need help to set it up ready for opening day.
Domestic & Family Violence
The refuge will be the first core and cluster–designed refuge in the Hunter and the first ever refuge in Port Stephens - a milestone for our region and a critical step forward in supporting women and children escaping domestic and family violence. The site includes six individual dwellings supported by a central ‘core’ that will provide access to counselling, legal assistance, medical care, education, and employment support.
This refuge will be life‑changing for local women and children, offering a safe and secure place to begin rebuilding their lives after trauma. It represents not just a service, but a long‑term investment in safety, dignity, and recovery for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
As we move toward opening, we face a significant challenge: furnishing the refuge on an extremely limited budget. Every item donated means we will have more resources available for the women and children who will rely on this refuge for safety, stability, and hope.
