Recipient story

Young person facing homelessness, violence, disability and financial hardship while waiting for stable housing.
Domestic & Family Violence
First Nations Support
Other hardship(s)
A caring, kind young person who loves deeply is rebuilding after prolonged trauma, homelessness and instability. Nearly 23% of Australia’s homeless population are aged 12–24, and family and domestic violence is the leading cause of homelessness for young people. Trauma from violence in adolescence can have serious long‑term impacts on wellbeing, development, trust, mental health and education. Many young people exposed to violence experience hypervigilance, anxiety, depression, disrupted schooling, and difficulty forming safe relationships into their late teens and early twenties. Despite these challenges, this young person is actively healing, showing resilience and determination while waiting for stable housing and navigating disability and financial hardship.
