Family impacted by the Jan 26 fires with significant loss of personal belongings
2026 Victoria Bushfires
Family with two sons evacuated to return to the shed and total contents destroyed in the fires, all farming equipment, hobbies, camping gear. Son lost motor bike which he rode on the family property every day. TV had become their only entertainment previously a very outdoor family who rarely watched TV. Family prioritised replacing the bike for their son which has improved his & the family's wellbeing immensely, claiming without the noise of the motor bike the silence was deafening. Insurance policy granted 72 hours prior to their being a fire risk, insurer making the claim extremely difficult with unreasonable requests eg screenshots of phone messages & personal phone records, a 1hr 45min interview. Dealing with insurance & the delays is taking a physical, emotional & mental toll with both parents showing signs of PTSD. Adding to their stress husband has been working away since Jan able to return home most weekends causing financial strain with the increased fuel prices.
