Young person who has endured family violence since childhood and overcome repeated housing instability. Is now awaiting a long‑term, safe home where they can finally settle and rebuild. Their resilience is remarkable, they are deeply involved in the arts community, kind, intelligent, and committed to creating a stable future.
Youth homelessness remains a major issue in Australia. More than 45,850 people under 25 experience homelessness nationally, and 91 per 10,000 people aged 19–24 were homeless on Census night 2021. Domestic and family violence is a major driver, with 1 in 3 young people presenting alone to homelessness services reporting DV.
Research consistently shows that safe, stable housing is critical for people under 25. Homelessness can cause long‑term harm to wellbeing and life. A transition into secure, long‑term housing is therefore not only life‑changing, but also evidence‑based, protective, and essential for their continued healing and growth.
