The carer works full-time while also managing significant caring responsibilities at home. They and their husband are supporting a large extended family, with their son, his two children, his partner’s nine-year-old child, and their daughter all living in the household. The carer described feeling overwhelmed by the demands of caring and the ongoing challenges within the family. Five years ago, their family home was destroyed by fire, which had a lasting impact and contributed to their husband becoming unwell and unable to work. The carer provides ongoing practical support to their grandchildren, including transporting two young children to and from daycare. Two additional car seats would provide practical assistance, reduce stress and make it easier to safely transport the children without continually transferring car seats between vehicles.
