This recipient recently left a violent relationship and is now rebuilding their life in safe, independent housing. The move has increased their living costs and placed them far from their children’s schools and the informal supports they once relied on. One child has significant disabilities and requires frequent medical appointments, creating essential but costly travel demands. Rising fuel prices and the need to balance medical travel with rent, food, and other basics have placed overwhelming pressure on their limited budget. As a single parent with little support in Canberra, they are doing everything they can to keep their family stable, but the financial strain has become unmanageable.
