I am a housing support worker and am currently working with a single mother with 3 children who are at risk of homelessness as they have received a notice to vacate. They have been actively seeking a new private rental property for many months, however, high rental prices and the competitive rental market are creating significant barriers to securing a suitable and affordable home.
I am currently supporting the family with rental applications and our organization can provide funding for 1 month of rent in advance and removalist costs once a new property is secured. Our allocation of funding is limited to establishing the new tenancy, therefore we are currently unable to assist with funding related to their current tenancy.
The mother receives the Disability Support Pension and is unable to work, so the family has very limited income.
The children are particularly affected, experiencing stress and worry about the possibility of losing their home and relocating.
