The purchase of a laptop and mobile phone to support a young person, whose mother is currently incarcerated
Our service is currently supporting a family, where the mother is currently incarcerated for drug related crimes. The young person (15) is being cared for by her stepfather and his parents. The young person has had considerable trauma in her life, including her mother being incarcerated previously for 3 years. During that time the young person stayed with her birth father, who was verbally and physically abusive. Over the years the young person has become increasingly withdrawn and has not attended school for a significant period of time. The young person has now got some wrap-around supports in place, with a goal to transition the young person into an education system. Currently distant education is being offered. The young person has great potential academically but currently lacks the confidence to enter mainstream school. The young person also lacks the resources such as having a computer or mobile phone, placing her at a disadvantage of not having her education needs met.
