This Aboriginal father proudly purchased his first home, creating a place where he hoped to build a secure future for his family. During the 2025 floods, the home was inundated, with floodwater causing extensive damage throughout. Without insurance, and overwhelmed by the disaster and its aftermath, he was unable to access government grants or assistance. Since then, he has worked hard to recover where he can, but progress has been slow. He has recently welcomed a new baby into the family and they continue to live in a flood-affected home with limited electricity and ongoing damage. Despite these challenges, he remains committed to providing a safe and stable future for his family and rebuilding their home one step at a time.
