This elderly couple lost all possessions during the Lismore flood event. Their house was severely flood affected and they lost all household and personal possessions. Additionally these people also lost their local business with all machinery, tools and contents of their business being washed away or water damaged.
Since the flood event the husband has injured himself doing flood damage repairs himself and is still needing to use crutches 12 months after knee reconstruction surgery.
An added adversity has been minimal access to NSW government assistance with this family recently being declined the NSW buy-back scheme even though their house was completely water damaged. Since this family has not been able to revive their business they have been relying on savings to live on and fund house repairs
