Grocery Voucher - $20

A single man in his 60’s, first came to us when he was homeless. He is shy & softly spoken, not wanting a fuss made & obviously uncomfortable asking for help. We provided a swag & some food & encouraged him to continue seeking support from us while he was in crisis.
Over the next five months, he dropped by & asked for a breakfast pack or took some bread, but always said no if we asked if he wanted to come in & seek further assistance.
We persevered, greeted him by name when we saw him, asked him how things were going. He didn’t engage much so we didn’t push it, but we all hoped he would one day feel comfortable enough so that we could help him more.
Yesterday, he was sitting in the waiting room waiting for an available CSW. Our kindness, friendliness & perseverance paid off, he felt comfortable enough to ask for a bit more help. We were thrilled to give him a Coles voucher & a referral to the local FoodShare. We really hope he comes in to see us again soon.
