An Aboriginal single mother with one child under 4 years old were forced to leave their previous home, in another state, due to domestic violence. This young woman has worked very hard with the assistance of housing services to establish a new private rental in a reginal area. Due to the specific circumstances, there are very limited formal programs and assistance available to this family. The mother has incurred significant expense in order to ensure herself and her child are safe and well cared for. During the previous relationship and after leaving the violence, the perpetrator damaged or destroyed a number of essential items belonging to the family, including white goods, crockery and home electronics. The mother is engaged with ongoing wellbeing and employment supports and the child is enrolled and attending preschool.
