A single mother and her 3 year old son left their home country as this was necessary to ensure safety, and she is now working to rebuild their lives. With support from a specialist housing provider, the family has recently secured a private rental property. While this has provided important stability, the home is largely unfurnished, and the family has very limited furniture and essential household items. The mother limited Centrelink income and after covering rent and essential living costs, there is very little capacity to purchase furniture or household goods, particularly in the context of rising cost of living pressures. The mother is also living with complex trauma resulting from the violence she experienced. Establishing a calm, safe, and child friendly home environment is essential to her recovery and her and her son’s emotional wellbeing. Support through GIVIT would significantly reduce financial stress and assist this family to make their house a safe and nurturing home.
