This is a retired couple who suffered a huge loss in the bushfire and are underinsured.
2026 Victoria Bushfires
This couple are in their 70's and looking at the damage they have suffered is daunting for them.
They lost 3 vehicles, pasture, all fences, out buildings, machinery and 40 years worth of tools as well as many unreplaceable items. They also lost infrastructure, water tanks and water supply.
Their house was affected by all of the soot, they had to replace insulation, blinds, furniture some roofing and down pipes. They are trying to source feed for their livestock which is becoming difficult due to high demand.
This couple are on age pensions, they have spent their savings on new fencing as they have livestock as well as a new water tank and water pump so they could have water to their home.
Because their house didn't burn down they are not entitled to any grants and at their age, they are finding it difficult to see a bright future as they can't afford to replace all they have lost.
