2025 North & Far North QLD Floods
The recipient lives in Far North Queensland, an area known for extreme heat, high humidity, and frequent heatwaves. Due to their ongoing health conditions, they are significantly affected by these environmental conditions. The home becomes dangerously hot during the warmer months, often exceeding safe indoor temperatures, which places the recipient at increased risk of heat-related illness and worsens their existing symptoms.
The recipient currently does not have a functional air-conditioning unit and has no financial capacity to purchase or install one independently. Despite using portable fans and other cooling methods, these measures are insufficient in the FNQ climate, especially during prolonged periods of high humidity.
Because of the temperature sensitivity associated with the recipient’s disability, the lack of proper cooling impacts their daily living, mobility, sleep quality, and overall wellbeing. The heat also limits their ability to perform essential tasks safely.
