Our tenant suffered catastrophic injuries in the January 2026 unit fire
Our tenant suffered catastrophic injuries in the January unit fire, with flames causing severe burns to their hands, face, hair, and beard. The fire left their fingers badly damaged, with significant tissue loss that required multiple extensive skin grafts to protect their hands and preserve as much function as possible. Their facial burns were also severe, with their hair and beard completely burnt away in the incident. Due to the seriousness of their injuries, they were urgently transferred to specialist care in Sydney, where they were placed in an induced coma and remained intubated in ICU for several weeks while medical teams worked to stabilise them. This has been an incredibly traumatic and life‑changing experience, filled with physical pain, emotional distress, and long periods of uncertainty. They returned to us last Thursday, and while we are grateful they survived such a devastating event, they now face a long and challenging road to recovery. They will need ongoing support,
