I work for a service in the Fremantle Area that supports young people and young families who are facing homelessness and other adversities. I am currently working with a young, single mother (19 yrs) and her son (2 yrs) who have been facing homelessness due to family violence and intimate partner violence. They have been couchsurfing, and living from their car. Despite these hardships, the mother is successfully completing her TAFE course and has goals to pursue higher education, and her son is thriving at daycare.
Excitedly, after a long wait, the little family have been offered their very first home. This will be the first time that this child will have his own room and a safe space to make a mess, and the first-time mum will have a place to call her own. I am supporting the family to set up a safe and happy home, where they will achieve milestones and build new memories.
