A 68-year-old woman is living with the long-term impact of severe domestic violence after a lifetime of hard work and independence. Once a homeowner, her ex-husband threatened her safety, spread damaging rumours and subjected her to ongoing intimidation. To protect her children she repeatedly uprooted them from homes and universities; they are now adults but she believes the trauma left lasting anxiety and depression.
Her ex-husband took control of the house and finances, leaving her unable to access bank accounts or superannuation. For 11 exhausting years she has fought family court proceedings, borrowing money just to continue. Court-ordered maintenance stopped, and she now faces his legal team alone.
Following a recent fall requiring surgery and a leg cast, her mobility is limited and she struggles to afford petrol, food and essentials. Any support would greatly help this resilient woman.
