Those experiencing homelessness in Brisbane often lack access to basic hygiene essentials and products such as toothbrushes, razors, deodorant, shampoo and toothpaste, which makes maintaining a basic level of health and wellbeing extremely difficult.
Poor oral hygiene for example, can lead to painful conditions like tooth decay, gum disease, and infections, negatively impacting overall health and self-esteem. These issues can also affect nutrition and increase the risk of chronic illnesses.
By providing access to basic hygiene essentials people experiencing homelessness are able to maintain better hygiene, and reduce preventable health problems, while also improving confidence and quality of life. Even small interventions like providing basic hygiene items can make a significant difference in their wellbeing.
