Having arrived in Australia in 2022 escaping war-torn Ukraine, this elderly couple had just retired from professional careers when the war began. They left everything behind and arrived in Australia with a bag of possessions. They arrived on a tourist visa (only a limited number of humanitarian visas were offered) and applied for a protection visa which provided no government support for all these years. They are now permanent residents and are in government housing, however, they have no income as they are not eligible for Centrelink for another few years due to their visa conditions. They do not drive and because they are elderly, their work options are limited. They are in need of food and clothing support as we head into winter.
