This woman is a warm and kind-hearted woman in her 60s, living with her husband in his 70s. Together, they built a life centred around their home, their animals, and their local community. The January 2026 Victorian bushfires have taken that from them.
Their home and property were destroyed, and several of their animals were injured in the fires. In the aftermath, they have faced the added stress of not receiving adequate support for animal feed and care, despite the ongoing needs of their injured livestock and pets.
They are currently staying in temporary accommodation an hour away from their affected property. This distance makes it difficult to manage what remains of their land and properly care for their animals, adding to the emotional and practical strain they are already experiencing. At a stage in life where stability and comfort are so important, they are instead navigating uncertainty, loss, and the challenges of rebuilding from the ground up.
