I am currently supporting an Elder grandmother whose granddaughter has come into her care full time. Nan struggles with the day to day after a traumatic childhood of her own resulting in significant mental health diagnosis . Given the current cost of living continuing to rise, and on limited income with no capacity to attain any further income , the strain is felt within the home, while Nan is providing the necessities , being on the DSP the added cost of raising a teenager , providing food for school lunches, uniforms extra snacks etc are a stretch. anything further from the bare essentials are not possible given the increasing costs.
