FLOOD RECOVERY: couple navigating a new disability diagnosis need support after the 2022 floods.
Flooding - NSW - Spring 2022
This client lives on a rural property and often spends long periods alone while her partner works away. Following the floods, the significant stress and trauma triggered a previously dormant neurological condition, now causing involuntary body tremors and severely impacting her ability to safely complete everyday tasks.
As a result, she was forced to leave her role and is currently unable to work. She now requires support with tasks and is adjusting to a sudden loss of independence. Many aspects of her home and daily life have still not been fully restored or recovered since the floods, adding further strain to an already overwhelming situation.
She is currently in the process of applying for the Disability Support Pension; however, this transition period has created financial and emotional pressure. Support through GIVIT would provide vital assistance during this difficult time, helping her maintain safety, dignity, and stability while she awaits formal income support.
