The Client's son is in Year 9 and is struggling to engage with school due to his additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and trauma resulting from long-term family and domestic violence. His school engagement has been seriously affected by the ex-partner and there is limited internet access while the children are in his care.
As a result, his attendance has reduced and he is finding it difficult to stay on top of schoolwork. The subject he likes most is STEM. After speaking with the ICT team, this subject requires a laptop with a DTX 4050 graphics card. Because he needs to complete up to two weeks of schoolwork during the eight days he is with his Mum, he requires a capable device.
Unfortunately, the lowest-priced laptops with the required specifications are beyond her financial capacity as a single mother working irregular casual hours. Her limited ability to work is due to ongoing health impacts from the abuse experienced.
