Needing support to get an Air conditioner for the Community room to support community members get relief from Heatwaves
2025 Tropical Cyclone Alfred
Flooding 2022
We are seeking support to install an air conditioning system in our community room to provide a safe, cool environment for residents during periods of extreme heat. The community comprises approximately 200 residents, the majority of whom are over 55 years of age, with many being significantly older. A large proportion of residents live with disabilities and complex health needs. Many rely on mobility aids such as walkers and electric wheelchairs, while others manage chronic medical conditions, including cardiovascular disease and respiratory illnesses that require oxygen or other breathing equipment. The Tweed region regularly experiences extreme heat, with temperatures often exceeding 35°C during summer. This year alone, the area has experienced three significant heatwave events. These conditions place many of our residents at increased risk of heat-related illness due to their age, underlying health conditions, and limited mobility.
