Flood displaced elderly woman needs removalist help to move into a safer, more accessible pod after a fall.
Flooding 2022
GIVIT
Assistance is requested for an elderly pod village resident impacted by the 2022 floods. At the time, she was living in a Ballina share house of 7 years when she was forced to evacuate, seeking temporary refuge with friends while her belongings and vehicle were moved to higher ground. The flooding disrupted her housing stability, and she was later required to leave the property when a family member moved in.
She then moved into her friend’s home, which was already overcrowded (up to 12 people, including a wheelchair user with daily carers), and was again displaced. She has been using a quad cane for mobility prior to a recent fall in her pod, which may have been contributed to by the limited space in the studio. She is now being relocated to a larger, safer pod, allowing her to store her belongings onsite and cease paying for an external storage container.
Her belongings are currently in storage and require removalist assistance, as she is unable to manage the heavy lifting.
